No More Turning Away
BBC reports that Pink Floyd will perform at the Live 8 Concert in London next month. The hysteria surrounding this announcement is because it will be the classic Floyd line-up : Gilmour, Mason, Waters and Wright. No, no Barrett.
Floyd's music, of course, was what would accompany most of my moods in those nihilistic teenage years. Moods that ran the gamut from exhiliration to depression to energy to lassitude to anger to ...
The Gilmour and Waters statements on the website rightly focus on the objective of the concert - raising awareness of poverty. For me, personally, their performance (the first in twenty one years) will be the musical highlight of the decade. I won't get to go to the concert, London being a trifle farther away than a stone's throw.
I wish I was there.
